ADIEUπŸ‘‹!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello everyone...

Well, here it is. The last day of our postings of this year. It has come to an end. Myself and all my friends of batch E  really enjoyed our time together during this work, because this is something of a different experience for us other than the routine clinical postings. We gave our utmost (well not all, just a handful of girls and boys) dedication to this project right from the transect walk, social mapping, role play which our actors and actresses did so good, data collection and data analysis. Data entry was totally a different experience. Our teachers made it so easy for us. On behalf of all my batch mates I would like to thank all our teachers for giving us this wonderful opportunity for this new experience and guiding us throughout the entire postings. I regret so badly,  we couldn't do the presentation due to less members but I hope we did justice a little bit to the making of  presentation and the report. I ll surely miss cm postings, but nothing to worry we ll meet soon next year.. until then bye byeeeeeeee......

Hey everyone,

Well yeah today is the most awaited  day , most expected day in our postings ... Yes we conducted MEDICAL CAMP in pillayarkuppam village.. It was quite a good experience...  We the students, interns, sisters, social workers guided by our community medicine PG's and staff went to the camp..  Actually we enjoyed the day.. we students measured BP, then we explained the charts to the people ... few people asked questions regarding our charts... so it wasnt boring for us ..

It's me 😎there explaining the chart to an old lady surrounded by posers 😏... Thank you for the pic Sridar sir ✌

I guess we had maximum attendance today .. OD might be the reason for thatπŸ˜‰.  We also had a awareness drama for alcohol drinking... Our guys really performed very well...  We received few comments from the people which is unexpected ... And a small suggestion from me ... We had our camp in a temple..  Few can't come to the temple because of some reasons... so it will be better if we conduct the camps in some other places for the upcoming days and batches..

We had some fun today... Really it's a much needed break for us from our regular postings and hospital... Thank you to the  HOD sir Dr.Seetharaman , pruthu sir, sridhar sir, surekha mam, chitra mam and entire dept of community medicine who made us to enjoy our day...

            A DAY TO REMEMBER ....
                                        THANK YOU......

Yes... That's me with the  smiling beauty .. we found her in this camp... We all loved her cute smile ..😊

KEY INFORMANT INTERVIEW WITH ANGANWADI

Anganwadi, a part of public health care system to counter health and mortality issues in Indian villages, is the place we visited as a key informant interview of the village Pillaiyarkuppam. It has a population of 1185 people including 566 men and 619 women. We interview Mrs.Kavithamni, the teacher of that Anganwadi as part of our survey. “We have 13 records maintained here” she started with a smile on her face, and showed all those records , including staff attendance , children note , lactating mother note, pregnant mother note , immunization note , stock note, visitors note, mid- day meals note , family survey note and Vitamin A Bi annual note . They need to provide care for newborns and ensure that all children below the age of 6 are immunized, and also provide supplementary nutrition for the 40 children in that village. There is also pre schooling for 5 children (3-5 years). Old age pension includes Rs.2000 and disability pension includes Rs.2500.
“Most of the men die due to alcoholism” she uttered as soon as we asked the main cause of death in the village, and then she said there were 2 cases reported of TB. The major problem was mosquito other than that street dogs and rats in that place. But still monthly once they do spray medicine for mosquito control. When asked about the intake of fruits in the village, the village people denied they won’t take fruits because they don’t have sufficient money, but according to the teacher, the people do buy fruits and eat. “The reason is that they might have thought you would give them something if they said they were poor”, said the teacher. People are still not aware of the Diabetes mellitus and Hypertension problem and they don’t want to screen themselves, even if they do and become positive. They prefer injection, thinking medicines won’t cure them. They only go to hospital if they sense something is wrong with their body.
People do physical activity, suggested by the doctors, nurses, social staffs, and maintain their body. According to the teacher, no obese people and do undernourished people are seen. Most of the men’s occupation is farmer, and women are    working in nearby company. People do save money, they deposit in bank said the teacher, but “We don’t do savings and all.”  Denied  the village people when we surveyed each house.
We came to know that there were 5 deaths per year and 5 births per year. Overall we managed to ask almost all the questions about the socio- economic profile, nutritional status, and mortality rate of the village. We thank the teacher and the Anganwadi helper for cooperating with us.

  Thank you

This week went on with data entry and analysis work. Though it was new to know about making pie charts, tables but it was little difficult to do it. It was a double work as I and our team mates didn't save it for first time and we did it again.
Hi,
Today also typing, typing!!!! Oops no no, creating pie charts,  bar charts, and tablesπŸ˜›πŸ˜œπŸ˜œπŸ˜ in excel. We completed our particular task successfully, and we are kind of good in creating tables and charts now. Thanks to our staff who taught us . Next classes are about discussing the problems in the village and making charts and we are gonna start preparing for our camp. Excited about the camp.😎😎. hope we give a good report and reach to the level our teachers expected from us.

Waiting waiting. .....

Thank you

hi all
In our last CM class we entered all the data collected by us in to computer and compiled it into to excel sheet and learnt to create charts and analyse the data.
Hi guys,
Yesterday we completed our CDFIT entries.
Today we compiled all the epidata into the data as in excel sheet,
we learnt about how to compile all the data,
in excel sheet..........
The class is not yet over, but time.....can't stay, so we will compile all the datas tomorrow.
sir, please recommend for us to leave the class early.
Thankyou.

Hi,

Today's class......!!!!!! Typing#typing#typing#. πŸ˜‚ we were entering the data we collected during our survey. We entered through epidata, a new application to enter data. It was quite easy, Pruthu sir made it so easy for us and it was not time consuming. Thank you sir. Soumiya priyadharshini and myself we did together in Chitra mam's laptop. Total 21 forms, almost 100 individuals,  I was dictating and she was typing . It was a nice experience.  For me dictating was easy, in the final only got hypoglcemic a bit😜😜😜 but I have no idea how Soumiya managed to type those all in a stretch. Sooooo we don't know if we have completed all the forms or yet to finish. Let's see tomorrow.
Thank you

That's soumiya on the centre, myself on the right side.
Today during our posting we entered all the information we collected in the survey using epidata. We were divided to different groups and each were given twenty forms to enter.Compared to Excel it was easy to enter in epidata.

Past one week we had collected the data in
Proforma manner,in area PILLAYARKUPPAM-PUDUCHERRY.
Today we uploaded the data in msoffice,
Not in excel sheet, new way of entering,
But this way of entering data is so good,
Time saving, easy to analayze, easy to removing errors,
Just this method imporving our interest to do work,as mush as faster.
We enjoy the class today.
Thanks to Dr.pruthu sir,
and Dr.surekha mam.
Thankyou guys.

Thursday, 8 September 2016

Today is the fourth day of our survey to pillaiyarkuppam .It was an interesting experience as subuluxmy and me didn't do the regular survey ,instead we interviewed an Anganwadi teacher . We were so excited that we will see many children in Anganwadi but we were so disappointed that we couldn't see not even a single child .
We saw different records maintained there such as children record, pregnant women
record , lactating women record , stock record, visitor record, immunisation record, etc. We were able to know that most people in the village died because of alcohol consumption and many tuberculosis patients were also reported (about 10).
The main occupation of the village is agriculture. The people have physical activity and do have savings in bank. Old age pension and disability funds were also given from the Anganwadi based on different criteria.
Hey everyone ,

Today we went to Self Help Group  (SGH) in pillayarkuppam,  pondicherry guided by our community medicine staff.
We talked to the president of a self help  group. They told the advantages, meetings, funds etc about the group.. I have shared an image of today's visit to our group.

Thank you..
Hello,,
Today, fourth day of our survey we went to pillaiyakuppam again and we continued our survey. But there was something special today. We were supposed to talk to the anganwadi teacher and collect secondary data for our survey, but only 2 were supposed to go . Soumiya priyadharshini and myself, we jumped to this opportunity and volunteered to do the anganwadi survey. We were so glad we got this opportunity, not everyone gets it😜😜😜. It was same old questionnaire for others whereas today it was so special for us, we prepared our own questionnaire ( OK OK not all of it we prepared, Pruthu sir helped us aloootttt) . We interviewed Mrs.Kavithamani, the teacher in anganwadI.  We got a lot of information from her. There are 13 records totally which she maintains some of which are mid day meals record, pregnant mother record,  lactating mother record, children note, immunisation , stock note , visitors note, etc. Let me share a few main points that attracted me more about the village from which she said. The most common reason for death there is alcohol consumption  by men. They recored 10 Tuberculosis since last year. Mostly no one from the village screens for hypertension and diabetes mellitus, unless something is wrong with them, because they expect some injection to be given to them when going to the hospital, and they don't want medicines to be given if they are diagnosed with hypertension or diabetes mellitus. I was wrong in my last blog saying people don't do
physical exercise and save money. Yes... yes they do physical exercise and even they do save money,  they put in the banks and the reason they hid this from us because they were expecting we would give them something. No one is seen obesed there. According to the teacher she said there will be 5 to 8 deaths per year and 13 to 15 births per year. There are still more to be shared. It will be disussed later through our presentation. This is it for now.

Thank you for your patience

Today's mid day meal for the kids

Hi
Today it was field visit to pillayarkupam. We were divided into groups  and each one of us were given 4 forms. The questioner
Contained environment health and sanitation, nutrition assessment, demographic profile......
 Thank you

Today it is our third day for field visit to pillaiyarkuppam . We took a survey using the proforma we prepared before . We went to many houses and collected their details regarding their socio economic status , nutritional assessment , facilities available there . It was an nice experience interacting with people .

Survey day 3

Hello everyone,
Today, the third day of survey to pillaiyarkuppam, I surveyed three houses out of which 2 houses had 7 members in the house. It took much more time to complete the questionnaire, when compared to other houses and they had only a single room with a hall in a semi paka house. From this 3 days I found out, people in that village mostly don't consume wheat, rava nor fruits. They don't do any physical activity, nor save money for any purpose . Chronic diseases were less. I must appreciate their garbage disposal, everyone keeps the garbage outside and the municipality people come and dispose them. There's still more to talk about the village, which will be discussed in the final report.
Thank you
A semi paka house we surveyed

Saturday, 3 September 2016

Hello everyone,
Today we went for the survey to pillaiyakuppam. We were given the questionnaire and divided into groups and we asked the questions. . It was a nice experience.  We even took their BP,  height, weight,  waist and hip circumference. I kind of felt the questionnaire was too lengthy,  specially about the expenditure.  From the two houses I went they hesitated to tell the expenditure rate. There was this third house who wantedly call us to take BP height weight, they were very excited about us taking the survey. But unfortunately we didn't have much time to fill up the questionnaire from that house . But still, their warm welcome made my day. The teachers heled us alot.  Thank u teachers. Looking forward for the next survey day 2.
Thank you
Hi everyone
Today we conducted a survey from the neighbourhood of pilliarkuppam.
The basis of the survey was to get an idea about the family, its econimic status and the health conditions that the family was in.

Hi hi... ....

Today's class was compiling all the questions to the proforma.  But our teachers took the big effort of typing all of them for us which we must have done. Thank u so much teachers. We learnt the benefit of each questions to be asked and why . We were actually very glad that we contributed many questions  to the questionnaire. Sir added the questions which wrote yesterday. Tomorrow the big day starts--- pillaiyakuppam CD-FIT starts. Excited about tomorrow.  Until that
I'M WAITING .............

Hi
Today's class was  discussion section about yesterdays proforma.
The questions was prepared for tomorrows field work.
Hi,
Today we discussed about how to form a questionnaire. The type of question that should be asked to the residents and the things that we must observe.
Today we discussed about the proforma which we prepared yesterday . We arranged different divisions what we prepared yesterday into a sequence so that it will be useful to take the survey tomorrow.

Thursday, 1 September 2016

Hi friends
Today's class went on about the discussion of our transect walk yesterday and we were asked to make our own questionnaire based on what we saw in pillaiykuppam. Each of us were divided into groups. My group member was pratuysh and our topic was on morbidity pattern.  Goshhh that is a huge list, I mean literally all main questions come under this heading.  We thought and got some help from Prof.Mr.GoogleπŸ˜†πŸ˜† also, and more importantly teachers helped us to frame the questions.  Hope we did justice. Hope our questionnaire has satisfied our teachers. Fingers crossed. ✌

Thank you
Today's class was about proforma nd its development.Group work was done. Each group has  given specific topic, based on that questions are prepared..
Hi frnds, today i have learnt about proforma and its development. We have divided into 7 groups and divided the topics of proforma between us. We the group 5 had been given the topic of anthropometry and we have developed the questionaire to proceed with our visit to pillayarkuppam
               Thank you
Hi
Today we were asked to prepare profoma so that we get to know more information about the village.we were given different topics like socioeconomic status, environmental health and sanitation.....

CDFIT_4 PROFORMA

Hi guys,
Today we discussed about
How to prepare a proforma,
and we were didivide into 7 gropus,
And i belong to group 3 here we discussed about environment sanitation and pollution.
Finally i came to know about what is proforma.
Thankyou.
Today we are asked to prepare a proforma so that we will be able to collect more data and also know more about the village. Proforma consists of various divisions such as sociodemographic profile, environmental ,
nutritional assessment , facilities available etc.

Episode #4 "panick of the proforma ":p

Today again we started off with recapping old stuff ( lol. This line has become mandatory in every post :P)

Things were all going well until we were told to make a proforma ...(apdina !)  ,we were divided into 7 groups with separate topics to each group . ( viduvoma naanga. ? Eduthomla Google a!).

Tho getting enough questions and compiling them seemed a Himalayan task it went pretty well ( all we had to do was to keep it simple ) :D

Hope the data collection goes smooth too :D

Hi everyone.....
Today's  class  was about  how  to  develop a proforma .....so  that  we  came  to  know about  all pros and  cons of  that  particular village ....knowing  about their occupation, source of  income, nutritional care  they  are  taking, etc.....we can  also grade this  based  on scaling  ranges  from strongly agree(5) to strongly disagree (1).....we  were  assigned  to develop  proforma  on  socio  economic  status...with  that discussion and  compilation was  done......
That's all  for  today's  class....
Thank you  all....☺

Thank you.
Today was our first trip as medical students to Pillayarkuppam village. It was a different experience to learn about the village and about the facilities. The village has an ration shop, quite a number of temples,a milk society and most of the basic things required.Getting to learn about the village first and then helping them out is an innovative idea.Looking forward for more trips.
A fresh start with fresh air!!!!

HI there, good evening!!!  The field trip to Pillayarkuppam village was a new experience. Especially learning about different services that are implemented in a village organized by the government gave me an insight as to how things really work there. It also give me an idea as to how to carry out any specific tasks methodically.

It was very fun and engaging to create sitemap of the village along with important LANDMARKS.  Gosh!! I really hated maps in high school but that's not the case NOW. All the data gathering about the various government schemes introduced and also creating the layout of the village along with friends was really interesting.

April after all it served as a stepping stone for developing good public communication and Cooperative activities in the future.  Thank you

Hi guys.
Yesterday we learnt about how to make a questionnaire..........and we learned about open and close ended question(yes or no) and experimental  and analytical studies.. Descriptive  studies...... Case control  and cohart  studies(follow up)....... Thank  you  all....

CD-FIT 2

Hi guys ;) yesterday we discussed about designing a proforma and research methodology.we learnt about open and close ended questions , about study designs , diff between cohort and case control studies , our discussion also included public involvement. Today we are looking towards a good field trip.
Yesterday class was about quitionaire,
and we saw about open and close ended type of questions and saw the difference between case control cohort studies.
Thank you
Yesterday class is about questionaire,
And we discussed about open and close ended type of questions,
and we saw difference between case control study and cohort study.
Thats all about yesterday class.
Thankyou.

Today's  class about "Introduction to Research Methodology and questionnaire  development" gave an outlook about things essential to developing a questionnaire for conducting a research study.

The clear description of each questions to be asked and correspondingly categorizing them into broad headings gave me an idea on how to proceed  things systematically and without any errors. And also the way of concluding the report with the summary of "problems" is quite easy for reviewing my data quickly.

The explanation of different types of research studies with familiar examples is nice. Actually, I cleared most of my previous  doubts regarding these section. THANK YOU,  SIR

Finally ,to conclude, The importance of a control in conducting a research project is very well exemplified by the "Prevalence of anemia after folate & Iron administration" case study example found me really intriguing.

The long and short of it is that I know at least how to ask questions according to my objectives.
Hi, today there was a discussion about how to categorize and make a questionnarie. Then where and how to use open and close ended questions. Finally we discussed about the types of studies. Thank you
Hi
Today we went for transect walk in Pillayarkuppam, where we saw primary school, post office,Ration shop,Anganvadi, milk depot, more number of kutcha nd semi pakka house without proper drainage facilities and improper waste disposals.
We came to know about the route to the village  nd this transect walk will help us in further findings.

Experience in community medicine postings

29/08/2016
Yesterday was our first day in the postings,it was fun and  interesting. We came to know difference b/w clinical and community diagnosis ,importance of community involvement, matrix of how to handle the problems according to our feasibility. We also came across primary and secondary data, poverty definition. So that was all about the start of the class.
30/08/2016
Today was a very interactive session about making the questionaire. We dealt with open and closed type of questions, about qualitative and quantitative studies.we also saw about difference between case control and cohort.Thats all i actually remember for now.I m too excited about our visit to pillayarkuppam tomorrow.πŸ˜„
Hey there !
Today we started off the class by recapping the previous class .
We discussed about research methodology and how to prepare a questionnaire.
Then we moved onto learning about open ended and close ended question.
Thank you
Hi all...
Yesterday  class was about  community  diagnosis, clinical  diagnosis, Facilities  in  those  particular  areas, Resolving  those  problems....
Today we  discussed  about  how  to  categorise  and  make  a questionnaire ....and  difference b/w qualitative(how  good  it  was)  and  quantitative(amount) studies....open  ended and  close  ended  questions....(Yes  or  No) and  finally  about  experimental(RCT) and  observational  studies  (Descriptive & Analytical) .....Analytical studies  has  its  components  (Case  control  and  cohart  studies(follow  up)....

How community diagnosis differs from clinical diagnosis
How to prioritize the issues of the community
How important community involvement is in implementing health care programs.
Primary and secondary data collection

And today's class....
I realized everyone watched kabali except me...despite being a die hard fan..
I always taught questionaires were a waste of time.but today i actually knew how much data retrieving n documenting is important.
Also, how to catagorize the problems.i.e.,
General
Environmental
Socio-economic
Common to the Village
Nutrition
Family
Health status
Morbidity profile
Maternal /child health
Utilization of services.

These postings turned out to be more interesting than i anticipated...😊

CDFIT_CLASS-2

(29/08/2016)yesterday class was about community diagnosis,
Clinical diagnosis,
and difference b/w those diagnosis,
Facilities in the particular area ,
To Find out the problems in that particular area,
Try to resolve those problems,
It is possible only when
community participation is present,
If its not there we cannot find a solution for the problems,
and we also disscused about poverty ,
Thats about yesterday class.

Today (30/08/2016)
We disscused about
Difference b/w qualitative and quantitative studies,
and we disscused about openended  and closeended questions,

difference b/w casecontrol and cohart studies.
Thats all about todays class.
Thankyou.

Kabali daw!!!##$@% (Epdisode 2)

There ! I've got your attention now I hope .
So where were we today???.....yeah research methodology and something about forming a questainnaire.

 What did we go through??

Right from recapping last session we traveled down the lane of questainnire making and research methodology. (Quite fun right . ? "Aama nu othukonga ! You know who is watching " :P :D

We learnt that open ended questions make us open our mouth and close ended ones do the contrary of that. LoL :D

Hi
Today's class about how we categotise each headings for a questionaire which includes demography and socio- economic profile, environmental, nutritional, health status, maternal and child health, utilisation of available facilities.  Over all we divide them into four headings which gives us an overview of the particular villages problem- health problems , social problems , environmental problems , other problems.  Then we discussed about open ended question(open question), closed ended question(yes/no, on a scale of 10). Then we discussed what is qualitative studies( how good it is- mostly open ended questions help) and quantitative studies ( amount - closed need questions help ). Finally about the design studies - observational and experimental. Difference between casecontrol and cohort was explained with an easy example.  Cohort studies filters how many cell phone uesrs have brain tumor and case control studies filters how many brain tumor patients are cell phone users. Overall today's class was very useful about the basic headings how we need to catagorise.
THANK YOU .

Second day of CM posting

The second day of our postings was much more interesting with the discussion about the questionaire and the types of study with relating to the funny examples. The class was more interactive...
Hi,
Yesterday we discussed about what is CD-FIT and what are the things we can do it in and our limitations as a medical student. We have discussed the comparison between clinical diagnosis and community diagnosis. It was a interactive session where we learnt news stuff.
Today we had introduction class for research methodology and modern development.A another session where we classify what history is to be taken under which heading. The use of open and close ended questions was also discussed.
Hi,

29/08/2016 - yestetday's class was about CDFIT (community diagnosis feasible intervention training ) . We learnt about clinical diagnosis which we document the history, examination, lab tests, differental diagnosis, treatment, and review. Then we learnt about community diagnosis- what are all wrong with the community. The data we collect is called primary data. The data already available is called secondary data . Then we learnt about the matrix where easy to solve, medium to solve and difficult to solve on one side and very important, somewhat important, not important on another side.

THANK YOU

Hi all,

So after an hour of brainstorming and taking a peek into the abyss of PSM due to hypoglycemia we unfortunately had to wind up today's session.

Hope I did justice to today's session!!
